Jumbo bags
A jumbo bag or a big bag which is made of thick polypropylene yarns is now used as the best solution for transporting and storing all kinds of goods. Jumbo’s empty bags are pressed and need very little space, so it is easy and economical to keep them. Jumbo bags are flexible that are used to carry goods from 500 to 2000 kg and up to 3 cubic meters. Jumbo bags are suitable to carry all kinds of solid and dry materials that are in the form of powder, grains or flakes. These bags are easily lifted and moved from the top by using a crane or forklift. Jumbo bags are the cheapest and the most suitable bags for packaging, transporting and storing dry bulk materials because they do not require any other packaging or even pallets.
Every year, more than 500 million tons of goods are transported around the world by using jumbo bags. These bags are used to transport, move, and store chemicals, minerals, medicines, food and agricultural products, chemical fertilizers, petrochemicals, cement and many other bulk materials and products. Depending on the customer’s request, jumbo bags can be produced by using laminated (laminated bag) or non-laminated fabrics and also with an internal nylon layer or without it. Jumbo bags are made of smooth or polypropylene (PP) fabrics. The type of fabric used to produce the jumbo bag is selected based on the weight of the goods and the safe working load (SWL) and safety factor (SF). Jumbo bags are usually produced based on customer’s needs and for various uses and different types of lifting, filling, and unloading states. According to safe working load (SWL), safety factor (SF) and the type of goods, jumbo bags can be produced in a simple type with an entrance or open head and a closed bottom, which are suitable for most industries and goods. Or they are produced to transport and move food products and medicines that are made in isolated and completely hygienic workshops. A type of jumbo bag that are used to transport dangerous materials can also be produced based on specific properties developed by the United Nations.

Advantages of jumbo bags
Jumbo bags have the lowest packing weight for the weight of the carried contents, and are able to withstand up to 1000 times their weight. Jumbo bags have straps attached and sewn at the top and there is no need for a bottom pallet to lift them, and they significantly reduce the packaging cost. Depending on their safety factor (SF), the jumbo bags can be used for many times. The ability to print on jumbo bagsin different colors and designs makes them the best tools for promoting your product and content. Jumbo bags have the ability to be produced according to customer’s request regarding dimensions, different modes of lifting, filling, and unloading, and are designed and produced according to the type of goods, and the type of filling and unloading equipment.
Type and fabric material of jumbo bags
Jumbo bags are produced by using flat or round-woven polypropylene (PP) woven fabric. The type of fabric used in the production of jumbo bags is selected according to the safe working load (SWL) and safety factor (SF).
Different modes of lifting the jumbo bag
According to customer’s request, jumbo bags can be produced and supplied with different lifting modes or options. But, four-strap jumbo bags with straps sewn to the sides of jumbo bag (Cross Corner) and alsostraps sewn to the sewn seam of the corners of jumbo bags (Side Seam) are mostly used and are suitable for moving with forklifts.
Different modes of filling jumbo bags
Depending on the type of equipment used to fill the jumbo bag and the materials that will be placed in the bags, there are different modes or options for filling the bag. These modes are:
- Jumbo bag with completely open entrance, for materials and contents that are not very valuable and also are not damaged by moisture.
- Jumbo bag with completely open entrance, with edge and holes on the side of the edge to pull the rope and collect the entrance opening.
- Jumbo bag with completely open entrance, with a strap at the entrance to collect the entrance.
- Jumbo bag with full cover for the entrance, which protects the materials and also provides easy access to the materials and contents inside the bag.
- Jumbo bag with an entrance part for easy access to materials and contents and also higher and more protection of the contents.
- Jumbo bag with valve or funnelin the entrance based on characteristics compatible with jumbo bag filling machine or according to customer’s request.
Different ways to unload jumbo bags
Choosing the right type of jumbo bag causes saving time and money and facilitates the movement of materials. The different modes or options for unloading jumbo bag are as follows:
Closed-bottom or flat-bottom jumbo bag:
This type of jumbo bags is not frequently used, and if the contents are bulk, the bottom of the bag is split to unload the contents.
Jumbo bag with a valve or funnel:
This type of jumbo bag is used frequently, or to adapt to unloading equipment and machinery, or to follow the hygienic requirements of unloading.
Jumbo bag with a valve or funnel and bottom-protective cover:
This type of jumbo bag is used to further protect the contents against contamination.
Protective polyethylene layer
To better protect the contents of the bag from moisture and according to customer’s request, jumbo bag is produced with an internal polyethylene (nylon) layer. This protective layer can be freely inside the jumbo bag or attached or sewn into the bag.
Jumbobag safety factor
Jumbo bag’s safety factor (SF) according to the ISO 21898:2004 standard:
Disposable jumbo bags or safety factor 5:1 – These types of jumbo bags can be used for one time and their confirmed safe use is for carrying goods just for one time.
- Multiple-use jumbo bags or safety factor 6:1 – These types of jumbo bags can be used several times and their confirmed safe use is for carrying goods several times.
- Multiple-use jumbo bags or very high safety factor 8:1 – These types of jumbo bags have very high safety factor for several times and their confirmed safe use is for carrying goods several times.
Jumbo bags for carrying dangerous materials based on the United Nations (UN) framework – These types of jumbo bags have special characteristics and are used to carry dangerous goods. The UN-confirmed jumbo bags, or hazardous material jumbo bags, are produced according to the UN recommendations for carrying dangerous goods.
According to the ISO 21898: 2004 standard, the size of a jumbo bag should not be more than twice the size of the smallest side of the jumbo bag’s bottom.
Types of jumbo bags according to pieces of fabric used in jumbo bag’s production:

4-panel jumbo bag
The fabric used in 4 side walls of this jumbo bag consists of 4 separate pieces that are sewn to each other and to the bottom of the jumbo bag. In this type of jumbo bag, the handles of the bag are sewn to the connection line of the corners.
U-panel jumbo bag
A U-shaped piece of fabric is used for 2 side walls and the bottom of the jumbo bag. For the 2 remaining walls, two separate pieces of fabric are used that are sewn to the U-shaped piece. In this type of jumbo bag, the handles of the bag are sewn to the connection line of the corners.
Round-woven or circular jumbo bag
A piece of round-woven fabric is used to form 4 side walls of the jumbo bag. The bag’sbottom is made of a separate piece of fabric that is sewn to the round-woven part of the fabric. In this type of jumbo bag, the handles of the bag are sewn on the sides of the jumbo bag’scorners.
Jumbo bag with stabilizing piece or Q-jumbo bag
These types of jumbo bags have a stabilizing piece in the bag’s inner corners. These stabilizing pieces are sewn from inside to the bag’ corners. These pieces cause a uniform distribution of the bag’scontents and prevent its walls from sagging. These jumbo bags remain in their cubic shape after filling, and therefore occupy less space during transportation and reduce transportationcost. Jumbo bags with a stabilizing piece are the most suitable type of jumbo bag for situations where we don’t haveenough space in a truck or container.
Advantages of jumbo bag with stabilizing piece:
- Higher strength and stability of the walls;
- Less storage and more efficientspace;
- Less transportation and more efficientspace.
Jumbo bag with cap handles
In this type of jumbo bag, a piece of round-woven or circular fabric is used to form 2 side walls and the top and bottom of the jumbo bag. The remaining two walls of the jumbo bag are made of 2 separate pieces of fabric that are sewn to the round-woven or circular part. In this type of jumbo bag, the fabric that forms the head part of the bag is wrapped in the form of one or two cap handles that are used to lift the jumbo bag.
Other jumbo bags:
Jumbo bag with ventilated fabric
These jumbo bags are made of a special fabric that allows air to pass into the bag. Ventilated jumbo bags are used to transport and store agricultural products such as potatoes and onions, which need ventilation during storage and transportation.
Static electricity-resistant jumbo bag
These types of jumbo bags are capable of discharging static electricity up to 6 volts. These jumbo bags are used for special goods in which the production of static electricity is available, and not discharging this electricity can cause the production of sparks and related dangers.
Sanitary or food jumbo bag
These types of jumbo bags are producedjust for the pharmaceutical and food industries. The raw materials, fabrics, nylon layers, and … which are used in the production of these bags, and also the production workshop, are under special health and control supervision to prevent contamination of these types of jumbo bags.
